Today PENS is providing a common IP based network service across the European region covering data and voice communication and providing efficient support to existing services and new requirements that are emerging from future Air Traffic Management (ATM) concepts.

In 2015 an agreement has been reached between 34 ANSPs including Naviair and EUROCONTROL on the Common Procurement Agreement (CPA), which defines the principles and supporting governance structure to procure and provide the New Pan-European Network Services (NewPENS Service), which will replace PENS in 2018. 

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
