Traffic pattern temporarily changed around Copenhagen Airport
Dato
09.07.2015

The traffic pattern around Copenhagen Airport will be different over the summer due to a runway extension. Consequently, more flights than usual will be observed over Copenhagen and Malmö cities.

On 6 July 2015, a major maintenance work commenced on the eastern runway 04R/22L of the airport. The “shoulders” of the runway will be widened by four meters on each side. This work is expected to last approximately nine weeks, which is why runway 04R/22L is closed.

Because of the temporary closure of runway 04R/22L, the crossing runway (runway 12/30) will be used to handle air traffic to a greater extent than usual. Depending on the wind direction, the use of runway 12/30 means that more approaching flights than usual will overfly "the city" or "the southern part of Sweden." Runway 12/30 is closed at night time between 23-06. However, this closure can be waived in special cases.

Bonus info:

Aircraft take off and land preferably in headwind so an increased amount of landings will for instance be on runway 12 (approach over Skovlunde, Ballerup, Vanløse, Frederiksberg and Vesterbro), if the wind comes from a south-easterly direction.

The number of the runway indicates the runway compass direction rounded to the nearest 10's and divided by 10. For example, a runway located in the compass direction 221 degrees is named "runway 22". If there are parallel runways an L (left) or R (right) is added to the runway number, e.g. 22L or 22R.
