In 2003, the rate for flying in Danish airspace will be €63.48 per service unit, compared with the €53.93 rate in 2002.
In 2001, NAVIAIR suffered a severe loss due to the downturn in flights after the Nine-Eleven attack. A loss that according to international conventions should have been met by a demand for a 2003 rate rise.
In 2003, an exemption world wide from this demand has been granted, and with the approval of the Danish Finance Committee of 27 November 2002, Denmark has chosen to make use of this exemption. This has enabled NAVIAIR to postpone the collection of DKK 34m until 2004 in meeting the loss suffered.
In spite of the rise, especially among our neighbouring countries, Sweden is the only country that will be able to keep a lower rate than Denmark:
- Sweden €59.11 - Denmark €63.48 - The Netherlands €65.74 - Norway €72.27 - United Kingdom €83.83 - Germany €92.26

Service Unit Rate: The so-called service unit rate for the en route rate is based on a mathematical formula of the distance/weight unit. By example, the service unit rate is equal to a distance of 100 km flown by an aircraft of which the Maximum Take-Off Mass (MTOM) authorised is 50 metric tons.
