Due to an increase in traffic volume of in the first 5 months of this year - 11% more than the level from 2003, it has been approved that Naviair can reduce the service unit rate by 17,4% as from 1 September 2004. This will benefit the airline companies crossing Danish Airspace.
The service unit rate will be reduced from 68,23 € to 56,36 € and is expected to stay at the same level in 2005.
As a result of the Danish reduction to 56,59 € Denmark has the lowest service unit rate among our surrounding neighbours Sweden, Norway, Germany, United Kingdom and Netherlands. From 1 July Sweden reduced the service unit rate to 60,22 €.
Background
In 2001, Naviair suffered a severe loss due to the downturn in flights after the Nine-Eleven attack. A loss that according to international conventions should have been met by a demand for a 2003 rate rise. In 2003, an exception world wide from this demand was granted, and Denmark chose to make use of this exception. This enabled Naviair to postpone the collection to the calculation of the service unit rate for 2004 in meeting the loss suffered. Due to the increase in traffic volume in 2004 -more than expected - now Naviair has been able to reduce the service unit rate. This will benefit the airline companies crossing Danish Airspace.
