Aircraft Locating and Emergency Response Tracking
With its space-based ADS-B air traffic surveillance system set to take flight in 2017, Aireon is demonstrating leadership in the aviation community with the announcement of Aireon Aircraft Locating and Emergency Response Tracking (ALERT).

The Aireon ALERT service is a global emergency tracking solution that will make it possible for rescue agencies to request the location and last flight track of any ADS-B equipped aircraft flying in airspace beyond the reach of existing surveillance.

A revolutionary breakthrough in global aviation safety
As a public service to the global aviation community, Aireon will offer the emergency response service free of charge to all authorized organizations, allowing them to track an aircraft with which they have lost communication, anywhere over the surface of the Earth.

Unlike other options under consideration, Aireon will not require the aircraft operators, States or ANSPs to invest in any additional equipment or subscribe to a contract services as long as the aircraft are ADS-B equipped.

Making aircrafts visible in an emergency, anywhere
Leveraging the Iridium NEXT global network of 66 Low Earth Orbit (LEO) low-latency satellites, Aireon ALERT will be the only solution to deliver true pole-to-pole coverage, including oceanic, polar and remote airspace coverage — avoiding duplication or the need for the use of multiple systems.

With one global view of ADS-B equipped aircraft, Aireon ALERT will provide a very precise GPS location knowledge and real-time access to tracking data to authorized search and rescue operations.

Bringing together the global aviation community
Tracking aircraft in emergency and search and rescue situations is a complex endeavor. Aireon plans to engage with global aviation stakeholders, including our current customers, the airlines, global ANSPs, regulators and search and rescue authorities, to discuss the best way to implement this global capability.
